NSX setup and preparation

To connect NSX to vRA and work with it in the SDDC, it needs to be set up and installed first. This part gives an overview about basic considerations and tasks to successfully install NSX in a vSphere environment. It is strongly recommended to check the required settings for HYBRID (Multicast needs to be enabled on the switches, an igmp querier needs to be set up, and so on) with the networking department. If these settings are incorrect, NSX might not work correctly. If these settings are unclear or impossible to configure, UNICAST mode needs to be used.

Tip

VMware demands that certified consultants from either a partner or VMware's PSO must install NSX in a production environment. The installation method provided in this chapter will work, but may not be best practice for every environment. Also, before installing NSX, a design needs to be created with assumptions, risks, and constraints to make sure that it fits the purpose.
