Adding Power BI to the home page in Dynamics GP

Dynamics GP 2016 provides additional connections to Power BI allowing Power BI visualizations to be presented inside of Dynamics GP. These visualizations can contain Dynamics GP data, but they don't have to. Any Power BI data can be presented in GP. In this recipe, we'll look at making the connection to Power BI and presenting it in GP.

Getting ready

Prior to connecting GP to Power BI there are some prerequisites:

  • The user setting this up should have access to Power BI and at least one report must have been created and available
  • The user should be able to log in to the Power BI site and view a report
  • Currently this only works for the GP Desktop Client

There is also some initial setup. To set up the connection between Power BI and Excel, follow these steps:

  1. Select Administration | Tools | Setup | System | Reporting Tools Setup | Power BI.
  2. In Power BI site URL, enter the URL from your dashboard. It typically looks like this: https://app.powerbi...
