Lab 12 – TI-LFA Node + SRLG Protection
In this book, the exploration of TI-LFA has delved deeply into node protection and Shared Risk Link Group (SRLG) protection as standalone strategies. However, in production network environments, the demand often arises for comprehensive fast reroute solutions that can simultaneously provide resilience against both node failures and shared risk link failures.
TI-LFA is a mechanism designed to address these needs by offering a combined approach where topology permits. Node protection in TI-LFA ensures that in the event of a node failure along the primary path, traffic is rerouted using a backup path that avoids the failed node, thereby minimizing disruption. On the other hand, SRLG protection extends this capability by considering not just individual link failures but also the risk of failures associated with groups of links that share common risk factors, such as transmission resource dependencies.
