Using the Geoprocessor task - what you need to know


There are three things that you need to know when using a geoprocessing service:

  • First, you need to know the URL where the model is located. An example URL is provided as follows. To make a model available through ArcGIS Server, you publish the toolbox that contains it. A toolbox can contain more than one model and so, therefore, can the geoprocessing service. For example, the following URL references the PopulationSummary model in the ESRI_Population_World geoprocessing service: http://sampleserver1.arcgisonline.com/ArcGIS/rest/services/Demographics/ESRI_Population_World/GPServer/PopulationSummary.
  • You need to know what input parameters are required by the model, and what type of data is returned.
  • Finally, you need to know whether the task is asynchronous or synchronous because this will affect how you write your code.
