Aligning 3D Content with Video Using Virtual Cameras

In some projects related to video production, you may want to use what we call a virtual camera, or track an object motion to replace it in a video later. That is quite common in productions dealing with some level of VFX.

Blender can perform some of those tasks with a powerful motion tracking system for video, which will allow you to use virtual cameras and track objects on the screen. In this chapter, you will learn how to use that system to add content to part of a video that was left blank while filming.

Here is what you will learn:

  • How tracking works in Blender
  • Using tracking marks to produce your videos
  • Identifying the best points in a video for monitoring
  • Adding markers to existing footage
  • Processing tracking data
  • Creating objects to follow tracking markers
  • Composing a video with images or video using tracking data
