Chapter 17: Creating Digital Twins for Smart Building
A smart building is a building where several integrated systems are used to provide vital information about it. This can then be used to automate and control a building's ecosystem, provide support services for workers, increase productivity, lower energy consumption, and more. We briefly discussed the concept of smart buildings in the first chapter. We also used smart building techniques in various examples throughout this book where we needed to monitor the temperature of rooms on different levels of a building. All of these exercises were examples of smart building techniques.
This chapter will go into more detail on what smart buildings are, how they can be used, and how a digital twin can support them.
We will cover the following main topics:
- Understanding the smart building ecosystem
- A smart building solution design
- The smart building architecture
