Understanding the SAP BusinessObjects security model

The security model in SAP BusinessObjects BI Platform 4.x can be classified into three main categories:

  • Object level security

  • Functional or application level security

  • Data level security

We will briefly discuss each category as it is managed and handled outside SAP BO Dashboards, but we still need to know about the basics of security management. This book will offer further references on each category, if you want to go deeper into the subject. The idea of this chapter is to give you an overview about what can be done to secure your dashboard. We will also provide some examples on each topic. In this section, we will focus on some terms related to security that everyone should be aware of:

  • Authentication: This is a general security term that refers to the process of verifying the user's identity. We have many authentication types in SAP BO such as:

    • Enterprise

    • LDAP

    • Windows Active Directory

    • SAP
