The Xbox Multimedia Center (XBMC) installation

Although Kodi (formerly known as XBMC) is not (yet) perfectly suited to use on Banana Pro, this section will describe the installation of Kodi from sources.

The only available implementation of Kodi for Banana Pro makes use of an Android library called CedarX. This is a library for the Allwinner CedarX Video Processor Unit (VPU) that's used for audio and video decoding and encoding. Additionally, libve will be used in the following description. This library provides the core of the CedarX video decoding functionality.

In order to use these libraries for Linux, a wrapper library called libhybris will be installed:

Ruediger Follmann

Ruediger Follmann was born in 1968 in Germany. He studied electrical engineering at RWTH Aachen, Germany, and received his PhD from the University of Duisburg-Essen, Germany. He has worked for IMST GmbH, Germany, for more than 20 years, where he heads the RF circuits and system integration department. IMST is a design and development company with more than 170 employees. He uses embedded boards in many different projects, for example, in order to control MMICs or hybrid electronics. Follmann is the author of many technical articles as well as Das Raspberry Pi Kompendium, Springer.
