Exporting to Data Lake and Synapse Link

The first alternative to the Entity Store is exporting the data to an Azure Data Lake, then processing the unstructured data from the lake and having it available in a Synapse workspace. This was a long-awaited feature for Dynamics 365 F&O because in previous versions of Dynamics AX, we, as end users or partners, usually had ownership of the infrastructure where the database was. This meant that we could access the production database to create a read-only copy that was used for reporting.

When the cloud version of Dynamics AX 7 (the first name F&O had) was released, that option was not there, and we lost a method that was used by a lot of people to extract data and create reports. And even for a short period of time, we didn’t even have the BYOD functionality.
