Facilitating self-management
Developers’ self-management means that the Developers are solely responsible for what they do, how they do it, and who does what. They plan the Sprint work according to the Sprint Goal. They inspect and adapt their work daily at the Daily Scrum.
A Scrum Master can usually tell if the Developers are self-managing by observing the following:
- The Developers resolve their own internal problems and disagreements so that they are not distracted from their work
- Creativity is abundant and there are plenty of research, proof of concept, and ideation-related items in the Sprint Backlog
- The Sprint Backlog is regularly updated during the Sprint to reflect work done towards the Sprint Goal
- Developers frequently collaborate on getting items to meet the Definition of Done
