Scaling Scrum

This chapter begins the third part of this book, The Scrum Practitioner. While in the previous two parts, we learned about the Scrum fundamentals (Part 1, Fundamentals of the Scrum Framework) and common Scrum practices and operational concerns (Part 2: Scrum in the Real World), the next few chapters intend to delve into more advanced techniques and the soft skills needed for effectively practicing Scrum in a commercial environment. These skills and techniques also tend to come up as part of the Level II Scrum certification exams.

In this chapter, we will explore the challenges presented when we need to scale Scrum, that is, when we have more than one Scum Team working on the same product. We will cover the following:

  • Why and when the need for scaling occurs
  • Synchronizing and communicating with the Scrum of Scrums
  • Integrating development across all teams with the Nexus framework
  • Dealing with the challenges of scaling
