Summary

LMMS and Audacity are a great complement to each other. Audacity can give you the power to record, edit, and process your audio samples, and LMMS lets you arrange them. LMMS is a great tool for putting together samples in interesting ways using the Beat+Bassline Editor and the Song Editor. When sampling, remember that there is a huge community out there that wants to share their sounds. Share and share alike! One great example of a music-sharing community is the LMMS Sharing Platform (http://lmms.sourceforge.net/lsp/), a central place for LMMS users to share and exchange their works made with and for LMMS, including whole songs, and also new presets and samples. Participating in these new, open communities, where people share their sounds and songs is a great way to see what others are doing, and challenges the electronic musician to think outside the box and figure out how to recontextualize sampling so that they can carve a new niche for themselves.
