Chapter 4. Introduction to Concurrency in F#
Performance optimizations are not just about understanding the underlying platform, profiling, toolings and measurements, and data structures. Now, with the rising trend of multicore processors and at the same time, the increasing needs of responsive applications to be achieved as and when required, concurrency is not just becoming more relevant but also a necessary requirement across all kinds of enterprise applications, especially applications across all full stacks of layers of multi-tier architecture applications.
It is also evident that concurrency is one of those performance optimizations that are often misunderstood. Some common misunderstood samples have already been described in Chapter 1, Performing Common Optimizations in F#. In this chapter, we will focus on concurrency features in F# and also get to know the basic strategy behind the deciding factor of the actual implementation.
