Using a rubric to grade assignments

When you're grading long documents such as essays and lab reports, you may use a rubric to provide feedback to your students. In Google Classroom, rubrics can be created for individual assignments. This section will provide an overview of how to create and assess assignments using a rubric.

TIP

Oftentimes, I still include a rubric in the Google Doc instructions of the assignment, because students have provided feedback where it is easier to view the rubric within a Google Doc than through the Assignment post in Google Classroom.

Creating a rubric in the Grading Tool

You can create a rubric while creating an Assignment post or you can add it to an Assignment post after publishing it. Oftentimes, I find myself adding it to the assignment afterward because the rubric is already within the assignment instruction's Google Doc. To create a rubric for an assignment, perform the following steps:
