Product Backlog management
As discussed in previous chapters, the Product Backlog is a dynamic, ordered catalog of items needed to create or improve the product. The Product owner is responsible for managing the Product Backlog.
Getting backlog refinement right
Product Backlog refinement is a regular activity that helps the team understand Product Backlog items, decompose them, and estimate them. The Developers do the estimating, but the Product Owner may help by clarifying the requirements and identifying trade-offs. Refinement works better when it is an organically grown activity, rather than a prescribed one. That means that instead of creating scheduled meetings for refinement, it is usually better to dynamically set up short sessions where the Product Owner and some or all of the Developers select and refine a small number of items. This way, everyone can focus on specific items and Developers do not feel they are distracted from their work for too long.
