Mobile Device Management overview

Mobile Device Management (MDM) is the fundamental of the Enterprise Mobility Management (EMM) platform and the beginning of a new era of device management for smart phones and tablets. Organizations are now challenged with ways to better manage and secure corporate or personally owned smart phones and tablets. MDM has helped bridge the gap between providing access to corporate information but at the same time maintain control over the information.

MDM allows you to manage, secure, and enforce compliance on mobile devices to ensure that they meet your organization's standards. You can compare MDM to that of your Corporate-owned laptops and PCs that are most likely managed and secured through Microsoft's System Canter Configuration Manager (SCCM) or something similar. There is no difference with the way you should treat mobile devices in your environment, they need to be managed, secured, and locked down just like your laptops and PCs.
