Application types

With AirWatch, there are multiple different application types available for deployment. It is important that you understand each of them for when you get ready to deploy them to your users:

• Internal applications: These are the applications that have been built internally by your developers. These applications will most likely not be publicly available in the stores. You can still make them available to your users by uploading them onto AirWatch for deployment. The following are supported files for deployment using the Internal Application feature:

  • .ipa for Apple iOS

  • .app for Mac OS X

  • .apk for Android

  • .sis and .sisx for Symbian

  • .xap for Windows Phone 8

  • .appx for Windows 8.1/RT

• Public applications: These are applications that are available in the public stores (free or purchased) that are added to AirWatch and deployed to your users.
