BaaS

BaaS is a computing model where BaaS acts as a middleware for mobile and web applications and exposes a unified interface to deal with one or more backend services. Since most of these services were focused on providing backend services for mobile application frontends, this was also called mBaaS. A prominent player in this arena is Google Firebase.

Firebase began as a start-up providing chat backend to mobile applications in 2011 and later evolved to providing real-time databases and authentication. In 2014, Google acquired the company and started integrating more tools into its portfolio. Many mobile and application development services from start-ups that Google acquired were later rolled into the Firebase portfolio. Many Google Cloud services such as Filestore, Messaging, and Push Notifications were integrated with Firebase later.
