Tracking and recording user UI sessions
When it comes to tracking sessions from users, there are different ways to do it. We can do it by asking some of our teammates or other departments to record their sessions when they use the product, or we can use external tools to track user sessions.
The main point is to track shorter and longer sessions, to check the differences between them.
For shorter sessions, we will check why the users are using the app for such a short time, and why they are leaving immediately, whereas for longer sessions, we will check what is making the users stay in the app for a longer period of time.
Once we have figured out these things, it is easy to combine lessons from both sides and start to improve the UI in such way that we can avoid losing users.
To get better results from session records, we need to choose a specific task that our user can perform from start to finish, such as the following:
- Registering
- Adding a product to the cart
- Changing the password
- Subscribing...
