Managing and Monitoring Log Shipping


In this section, we'll learn to do the following:

  • Add or remove a secondary instance to/from an existing log shipping configuration.

  • Add or remove a database to/from an existing log shipping configuration.

  • Monitor log shipping.

  • Change the database restoring state at the secondary.

  • Perform failover from the primary instance to the secondary instance.

Exercise 62: Adding a New Secondary Instance to an Existing Log Shipping Configuration

To add a new secondary instance, follow these steps:

  1. Connect Object Explorer to the DPLPR instance. Expand the Databases node, right-click on the Sales database, and select Properties. In the Database Properties - Sales window, under Select a page, select the Transaction Log Shipping page.

  2. Under the Secondary databases section, click on Add to add a new secondary server instance to log ship the Sales database:
