Data management operating models

You cannot have an effective data management strategy implemented if there is a lack of ownership, decision-making, and oversight. Having an effective operating model helps in establishing roles and responsibilities and accountability from the point data is created to the point it is purged in an organization. The most common operating models are the following:

  • Centralized
  • Decentralized
  • Hybrid

We will review these models in the sub-sections below.

An operating model is a representation of how an organization operates. In the context of data management, it allows us to visually represent how an organization manages its data-related processes with appropriate checks and balances.
