Data Without Insight
Science fiction writer Daniel Keys Moran has been quoted as saying “You can have data without information, but you cannot have information without data.”15 Do you know what information without data is? It is a hunch or a guess.
DATA without INSIGHT is worthless. It is the equivalent of having all of the ingredients to bake a cake, but no recipe. You can guess how much of each ingredient you might need, but in the end, the cake will most likely not be very good (if it is a cake at all).
Remember when you were learning how to drive a car? You passed the initial test to get your driver’s permit, so you only had a limited amount of DATA that was converted into INSIGHT. But you never had any practical use for the INSIGHT until you got behind the wheel. What I am suggesting is that it is time to get in your HR car, set up the HR GPS system, and figure out where you are. Then monitor yourself like crazy to ensure you are going where you want...
