Assigning storage profiles to virtual machine disks and checking compliance
The whole idea behind profile-driven storage is to segregate and tie VM disks (VMDK) on to appropriate storage backing. Before you proceed with assigning the storage profiles to VMs, follow the instructions in the Creating a VM storage profile and enabling it recipe.
How to do it...
The following procedure explains how to assign VM storage profiles to VMs:
From the inventory Home, go to VMs and Templates:
Select the required VM, navigate to Manage | Profiles, and click on Manage Storage Profiles:
In the Manage Storage Profiles window, select a profile for the virtual machine configuration files, and then either propagate that to all the disks associated with the VM or assign different profiles to each of the virtual disks:
After the profiles are assigned, the profile assignment summary will show profiles attached to both the virtual disks and the VM's configuration files:
