Managing Private and Shared Channel Membership

In Microsoft Teams, the composition and management of private channels are closely linked to their parent team. To participate in a private channel, individuals must first be members of the parent team. For example, if a private channel named Managers is created within the Sales team, only members of the Sales team can be added to the Managers private channel. This ensures that all participants in the private channel also have access to the broader communications and resources of the parent team’s standard channels.

Role of Channel Owners

Channel owners have important responsibilities in managing the membership and settings of their respective channels. Every private and shared channel needs to have at least one designated owner.
