A step by step character design


Games with multiple heroes are perfect for experimenting and putting to test your design skills. You already have a solid base: an existing game with core mechanics that work. Also, you probably have some ideas about what is lacking or what would make a great addition to any game you like and play a lot...so half of the work is already done!

Note

Read this part very carefully and as soon as you finish, experiment with some character designs for your favorite game. Keep in mind that these sorts of exercises are a very common question asked during job interviews. Always expect to be asked something such as "create a new hero for a game" or "what are you favorite mechanics for this character?" or even "how would you improve this character?" The more of this you have done while learning game design, the better and more interesting your answers will be!
