Dissecting the architecture’s operational plane
The goal of the data management function is to create a data management solution capable of supporting other functions and the entire organization in achieving strategic objectives. To develop a modular and data-product-centric data management solution, the data management function must possess, at the operational level (System 1), specific core capabilities. In this section, we will explore what these capabilities are and why they are necessary to create a modular, composable, and sustainable data management solution.
Core capabilities
The four core capabilities that the data management function must have to build a product-centric data management solution are data product development, governance policy-making, extended operations (XOps) platform engineering, and data transformation enabling (Figure 3.7).
