Consolidating and archiving a project
We like to hope that once a project is done, that’s it – we can call it a day and move on to another project. In truth, you may need to revisit a project long after it has been released. I once had a project I worked on that needed a change in music due to some unfortunate licensing issues 10 years after it was completed. Had I not held onto an archive, I could have still fallen back to the stems, but the way the music was mixed in this specific project would have made it a lot harder.
Now, it’s possible to simply compress or just copy an entire session folder as is to an external storage system, but often, a project’s clip list gets bloated with material that’s not needed for long-term archiving. It’s also possible that you may have (intentionally or not) audio files that are saved outside of the session folder.
