Summary
In this chapter, we learned how to define the organizational structure needed to implement a data management function capable of managing data as products. In particular, we focused on the modular unit of this architecture: the teams.
First, we introduced the Team Topologies framework, outlining its four types of teams and the three types of interactions between them.
Then, we applied these key concepts to define the structure, types, and interactions of the teams necessary for implementing the organizational architecture of the data management function. Here, we examined the data product teams, platform teams, governance teams, and enabling teams responsible for implementing the operational capabilities of the data management function. Then, we analyzed the data strategy, data portfolio management, and operations management committees, all of which are responsible for implementing the management capabilities of the data management function.
