Enabling vSphere HA on a cluster

vSphere HA has to be enabled on a cluster, with a minimum of two ESXi servers. Once enabled and configured correctly, in the event of a host failure, the virtual machines that were running on the failed host will be restarted on another existing host that is part of the HA cluster.

How to do it...

The following procedure describes how to enable HA on an ESXi cluster:

From the vCenter's Home inventory, navigate to the Hosts and Clusters view.
Select the cluster and navigate to Manage | Settings | vSphere HA, and click on Edit.
At the Edit Cluster Settings window, select the Turn ON vSphere HA checkbox, and click on OK to enable HA.

How it works...

When you enable HA on a cluster, the FDM agents available on the vCenter Server are transferred and installed on the ESXi hosts in the cluster. Then one of the ESXi hosts is selected as a master and the remaining hosts become the slave hosts.
