If we compare the networks of the past to networks now, from a design point of view, the changes are obvious. But, if we look at networks from a purpose point of view, then we realize that the networks of the past and the networks today are no different at all. Both share a common goal: sharing of resources. To ensure that these resources are available to users, a large number of network devices are required to seamlessly work together. Among the numerous networking devices out there, switches are the ones that act as connection points, be it on a home network or a corporate network. As the name indicates, a switched network is a computer network that is made up mostly of switches. However, there is also the concept of a fully switched network, which represents a computer network that is solely comprised of switches.
