Snort 3 installation process
In this section, we will describe the installation process. Since the process is generic, it may be applied to a different OS distribution. Here is a broad-stroke outline of the installation process. Firstly, the system has to be prepared for the installation, followed by the installation of the required packages and other dependencies, followed by the Snort installation step.
Preparing the system
For each of the cases (CentOS and Kali), we could start with a fresh installation of the operating system or use an already installed system. It is recommended that the latest or a recent version of the distro be used.
Once the operating system is ready, we will update it using the respective package management software. In CentOS, we will use the dnf
program, and in Kali, we will use apt
.
