Local monitoring tools

Like tools that keep an eye on the resources of your system here and now, there are tools for looking at the historic data on your system. NetData could be considered one of these, depending on how you use it, but there are more besides, and we'll look at a few more that can help you to debug past problems.

We're going to take a look at the following:

• atop
• sar
• vmstat

Getting ready

For this section, we're going to continue to use the Vagrantfile from the first section of this chapter.

Log on to centos1, the VM we're going to be using in this section:

$ vagrant ssh centos1

Install the tools we'll be using:

$ sudo yum install epel-release -y
$ sudo yum install atop sysstat -y
