Selecting a ControlLogix digital output module

A digital output module will be used in this project to run the pumps used by the robot bartender. Each pump will be connected to a digital output channel and a 12 V Direct Current (DC) power supply that will energize it. There is a wide variety of Allen-Bradley digital output cards available, and it is important that we select the right one for our project. When it comes to digital output cards (and digital input cards), there are two main categories within ControlLogix:

  • Alternating Current (AC) digital output cards: Always begin with 1756-OA
  • DC digital output cards: Always begin with 1756-OB or 1756-OV

Because we will be using 12 V DC low-voltage (and low-cost) pumps for our project, we need to select a digital output card that supports a voltage range from 10 V DC to 3O V DC. You must be careful when purchasing a DC output card for this project as many will not support our low-voltage...
