Using Storyboard mode

Storyboard mode takes a different approach to Magic Movie, using templates to give you a starting point for making your own video. It offers ready-made video formats, which use short descriptions and concept-drawing-style art to tell you what kinds of clips to put in certain places.

In iMovie, Storyboard mode used to be called Trailer mode. Still available in iMovie for macOS, Trailer mode was what got me really excited about editing. It offered different genres of film trailers that you could put your own clips into, allowing you to make your life into a Hollywood-style trailer. It was simple, not to mention really exciting – being able to create totally different stories with the same random selection of clips. Storyboard mode is even better. Not only does it offer the same trailer formats as Trailer mode but it also has templates for many different types of full-length popular videos, as iMovie puts it.
