The media disseminates information to many stakeholders and largely affects public opinion about a firm. For some organizations, security incidents are likely to attract the attention of the media. Since media reports about such incidents are likely to reach many stakeholders, organizations need to provide an incident report for the media to strategically convey some facts about an incident and curtail the formation of negative opinions.
If an organization disregards the media and fails to provide an incident report to them, it might suffer a loss of reputation and brand as the stories published about the incident might be unfavorable and lack important aspects of the occurrence.
