Conventions used
There are a number of text conventions used throughout this book.
Code in text
: Indicates code words in text, database table names, folder names, filenames, file extensions, pathnames, dummy URLs, user input, and Twitter handles. Here is an example: “The Zookeeper configuration is not shown as it is identical to the first docker
compose
file.”
A block of code is set as follows:
using OpenTelemetry.Metrics; using OpenTelemetry; using System.Diagnostics.Metrics; var meter = new Meter("NameOfMeter"); var counter = meter.CreateCounter<int>(Name: "requests- received", Unit: "requests", Description: "Number of requests the service receives");
Any command-line input or output is written as follows:
dotnet add package System.Diagnostics.DiagnosticSource dotnet add package OpenTelemetry.Instrumentation .EventCounters --prerelease
Bold: Indicates a new term, an important word, or words that you see onscreen. For instance, words in menus or dialog boxes appear in bold. Here is an example: “Be sure to uncheck the Use controllers checkbox to use minimal APIs if using the new project dialog from Visual Studio.”
