Getting organized with OUs

In most client-server architectures, the domain is the highest-level organizational structure in a directory hierarchy. It usually represents an entire corporate network or at least a major portion of one. However, right under this major structure, we have the Organizational Unit (OU), which provides another way of grouping objects such as users, groups, computers, and other domain objects into logical groupings. By doing this, an administration can simplify the process of locating devices and user accounts as the domain grows. They can even use the OU structure as a way of segmenting administrative power over the domain by providing some admins access to certain OUs and not others.

Let’s use the following steps to create an OU structure in the Admin console:

  1. Open your Chrome browser and navigate to https://admin.google.com.

Note that you will need to log in with a Google account that has admin rights to the Admin console.
