Creating service applications

Starting services within our farm is the first big task we need to complete before we can create sites for the user community. We must understand what services are needed for the farm, but also whether more than one web application will be created for the farm. The reason we need this information and why it's important is because if we do want to support more than one web application, we need to know what services are required for each web application.

In this section, you will learn how to configure services and find out what services you really need. In our planning session in Chapter 2, Planning and Architecture, I mentioned that this was something we should have looked at while planning. The reason why we must review those areas at the planning stage is because during our assessment, we looked at our old farm. When looking at our old farm, we found out what services were already running and what services will support the farm going forward...
