Working with date constraints
It is highly recommended that you work in the automatic scheduling mode of Project. All the useful scheduling features and tools that you have been learning about so far are only applicable in the automatic scheduling mode of Project. But sometimes, you may have hard deadlines, such as in the space mission project example from the start of this chapter, where, within a certain precise date, certain mission experiments should be finished, and other new ones should be started.
There are two ways to incorporate specific dates into your project:
- Set manual scheduling mode on for that particular task and set the start date, thereby taking over the responsibility of managing all its parameters. The effect of doing so would effectively be comparable to working with Excel for that task. Moreover, it may also present hard-to-discover bugs in the schedule. Since this is not the recommended technique, we will not dwell on this option.
