Why Risk Management is a viable option

Throughout my career as a CIO and CISO, I have worked with Risk Management and alongside them as a partner. I had felt that Risk Managers were people who had never actually performed the CIO and CISO role that I performed but somehow had the responsibility to comment on my work.

Then, later in my career, I started working with Risk Managers who had been a CISO or a CIO. This made me reconsider how their skills, knowledge, experience, and behavior made them excellent in this role.

I never seriously considered Risk Management as a career option, and subconsciously I had not really considered this path. But, in this chapter, let me explain why I pivoted and changed my own thoughts on this, and how the skills, knowledge, experience, and behavior that you have obtained in the CIO and CISO roles are perfect training to be a risk leader.
