Adding obstacles

Depending on your desired gameplay, obstacles can range from non-player character (NPC) guards to a puzzle minigame or even a simple parkour course that the player must pass. This helps amplify the gameplay and thus keeps the player engaged, encouraging them to stick around longer. In this recipe, we will use our previously learned knowledge of obstacle courses from Chapter 5 to build out a simple parkour course that will lead players to the next area on the map.

How to do it…

To begin creating a parkour course that will lead players upward toward an illuminated ceiling, follow these steps:

  1. Start by building walls along the train tunnel. The walls in this example are 31 studs tall.
  2. Next, build out the walls around the finish point’s hallway.
  3. Add a 30-studs-tall and 56-studs-long part on top of the tunnel wall, starting at the back tunnel wall and stretching to roughly the start of the sinkhole, as seen in Figure 7.10:
