What is a Cybersecurity Sales Engineer?

A cybersecurity sales engineer is a technical sales resource that supports the sale of cybersecurity technologies and/or services to businesses. This role is a hidden gem in the cybersecurity and broader tech industry; many technical resources shy away from this type of role mostly due to misconceptions regarding sales requirements. In most organizations, sales engineers are considered sales overlays, basically meaning they support the sales process but do not own it. This means that although sales engineers are often tied to the quota of the sales reps they support, they are not directly responsible for activities such as prospecting or cold calling, pipeline generation, and forecasting.
