Setting up a session for motion picture projects

There are certain technical aspects of a motion picture project that are important to consider when approaching a project. This recipe will take you through the setup of a motion picture mix template and discuss the reasoning behind the choices in the setup.

Getting ready

For this recipe, you will need a blank Pro Tools session with one mono track named Beep. As this is designed for motion pictures, having video content to work with helps so an example video file with a universal leader and timecode burned into it has been placed in the sample files on the GitHub page listed under the Technical requirements section of this chapter.

How to do it…

We’ll set up a session to follow the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE) guidelines, which are required for most motion picture projects. This includes making sure the timecode for picture start is correct, and a “2-beep” is placed...
