Learning about different sound formats
Sound files come in different formats, just like graphics files can come in different formats including JPG, GIF, PNG, and others. The industry, and sometimes the consumers, define the fate of these formats. Let’s place the consumers in the right context here. Occasionally, the specifications laid out by the creator of a file format are not welcome by the people who are using this very format to produce the work. Then, the work is created but not accepted by the platforms that would disperse such content due to technical reasons. It’s almost like a tug of war where the inconvenience or the cost of maintaining a file type outweighs the benefits and the ease of use. At these times, we tend to hear about newer formats, hence there being a multitude of file formats out there.
