Managing enterprise knowledge
To unlock the full potential of data, a deliberate, structured, and incremental approach to knowledge management is essential. But what does this process entail, and how can it be effectively achieved? In this section, we’ll explore the modeling of knowledge through an enterprise ontology and the operational processes necessary to bring this model to life.
Enterprise ontology
In the previous section, we discussed the importance of establishing a common domain ontology across the organization to ensure the interoperability of models defined at the subdomain level and to prevent the creation of knowledge silos. The domain ontology, together with the more specific subdomain ontologies that extend it, constitutes what is commonly referred to as the enterprise ontology (Figure 11.8).
