Manipulating timing with warping tools
In the previous recipe, we learned how to use the TCE tool along with Elastic audio to adjust the timing of whole clips. Now, we’re going to adjust the timing within a clip. The warp tools allow you to stretch and squash sections of the waveforms inside of an audio clip. This can be used for precise alignment of timing clips to match dialogue (either alternate takes or ADR), or this can be used as a creative effect to warp and distort the audio. Since it uses Elastic Audio, it is also non-destructive and can be reverted at any time.
Getting ready
For this recipe, you will need a Pro Tools session with a short clip (1 or 2 seconds) placed in an audio track. Example audio files have been provided in the GitHub link provided in the Technical requirements section of this chapter.
