Specialty brush creation
In this section, we are going to cover two types of special effects brushes very commonly sought after by artists; smoke and fog brushes. Both are complicated, and capturing a good smoke image that we use is a very specific skill set in photography, but not to worry, as I have captured some images we can use. Let’s get started with specialty brush creation.
Creating a smoke/flame brush
Smoke brushes and fire brushes work fundamentally the same as base brushes. We will create the images for these two brushes the same way as we did in the previous section. The only thing that will change is the blend mode and certain things such as the softness. In your downloads is a base image that has been adjusted with a black-and-white layer, and the contrast has been increased to make the black and white more pronounced (see the Smoke brush base image file in the Smoke brush files folder in the downloads of this chapter).
