Importing Microsoft Excel tables

Importing tables into InDesign is as easy as importing other assets. As is always the case, we'll use the Place command to import a table. We’ll then look at some of the formatting capabilities in InDesign to create a pleasant, visually rich reading experience.

  1. Choose the Selection tool V or Esc). Double click the Page 4 thumbnail on the Pages panel. Click off the page to purge any active selections. Choose File menu | Place. Navigate to the Chapter 4 - Designing with Text and Tables Example Files folder. Choose the Excel file named 06 Table.xlsx.
  2. Should you get a missing fonts warning message, click the Replace Fonts option at the bottom-left of the dialog. If like us, you have Times New Roman Condensed missing, do the following. A missing font has an exclamation point alongside it. Select it by clicking on it. Under Replace With:, choose Myriad Pro from the Font Family drop-down list and Regular from the Font Style option...
