Metrics, logs, and alarms

So, as you can see, the CloudWatch environment is a powerful tool that we can use to determine the state of our application. The basic functionality comes at no cost and enables us to perform powerful and automated actions on our environment by using the following core elements of CloudWatch:

The metrics that CloudWatch collects hold information, collected at a certain point in time, about a certain system, subsystem, or resource that is being consumed.
