Understanding the need for a new login service
I know, you're wondering, Why do we even need a new login service? One reason is because of the tight integration between systemd
and cgroups
. The systemd-logind
service does several things for us, but its main job is to create cgroup slices and scopes for everyone who logs into a system. As we go through this chapter, we'll look at a few other things that systemd-logind
also does for us. (To read a short description about all of the things that systemd-logind
does, see the systemd-logind
man page.)
